The B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Pro Angler of the Year title is the most prestigious angling award in the Australia B.A.S.S. tournament circuit, with the winner proving that they are the most consistent angler for the 2018 season. The series test anglers and their equipment at every turn, with such diverse fisheries it is mental battle just to stay on top of the fish, let along beat the other high quality anglers that compete on a regular basis.

The B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Pro Angler of the Year title is the most prestigious angling award in the Australia B.A.S.S. tournament circuit, with the winner proving that they are the most consistent angler for the 2018 season. The series test anglers and their equipment at every turn, with such diverse fisheries it is a mental battle just to stay on top of the fish, let alone beat the other high quality anglers that compete on a regular basis.

Langford would be thinking about triple crowns for the 2018 season.

With over 80 anglers hitting the water over the series we now have just 2 that are left in the table to take out the Berkley Angler of the Year title. Matthew Langford who has one hand on the trophy must better an 8th to improve on his current score and a 6th or better will shut out his only competitor Cody Haynes.

Haynes has one thing on his mind, a top 2 on Boondooma.

Haynes who has had a similar career as Langford with outstanding results as the inaugural Co-Angler of the Year title, and the round win this season has had a brilliant year and must take a 1st or 2nd place to push Langford to the limit. If the pair end up in equal place after the final weigh-in in the Atomic Boondooma AOY Championship in 2 weeks we will have a shoot-out Sunday afternoon to determine the AOY Champion for 2018.

The next step for the pro anglers and one of the hottest events of 2018 is the Motackle $10,000.00 Top 12 Invitational that will give the anglers a free shot at $10,000.00, and this is very interesting in deed. With 32 anglers still mathematically able to make what is the current cut off line where Danny Brookes and Steven Chang sit, the chase for the top 12 will every bit as important for the anglers trying to make it to the October premium event. (Announcement on the Motackle $10,000.00 Top 12 Invitational to come out early next week)

On the bubble, Chang will be looking to improve his score on Boondooma.

If there is a draw in the points table of the Top 12 we will use the standard rules and regulations to determine the final standings which include,(1) largest number of legal fish weighed during competition; (2) if the tie is not broken, the next tiebreaker will be the largest number of legal live fish weighed during competition; (3) if the tie is not broken, the next tiebreaker will be the heaviest single day catch during competition; (4) if the tie is not broken, the next tiebreaker will be the second heaviest single day catch during competition, if the tie is not broken we will flip a coin to decide.

The Motackle event will be run over 3 days of competition, with the pre, during and post shows both live and recorded for release during the end of the year to maximise the tournaments visibility around the pre-Christmas excitement. Some lucky angler will also be able to go through the completion and walk away with an amazing $10,000.00 first prize

All importantly there is also the top 32 anglers to be determined for the Berkley B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Championship which will be held on the last week of August on the iconic Lake Glenbawn NSW.

With 4 anglers already instantly qualified outside of the top part of the leader board this will leave around 28 spots left for qualification into the big one. As we know the winner of the Berkley Championship will be heading to the USA the first week of November, (Announcement to come out next week on this) where you will actually have a chance to reach the World Championship of Bass fishing, the Bassmaster Classic. There is also over US $200,000.00 in cash and prizes up for grabs in the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship and realistically this will be the greatest tournament you will ever fish in your life.

The NSW AOY Title.

After 3 tournaments in NSW we had a dead heat on points for the Berkley NSW titles which included Diamond Dave Welfare and Matthew Langford. After going through the scores over the season and working out the dynamics with the tie-breakers Langford took the title on count back of the largest sack the NSW season by 40 grams.

Equal on points, Welfare missed out on the title by 40 grams.

Jonathan Bale rounded out the top 3 and was the highest ranked rookie for NSW, while Mark Ferguson was 4th and David Lane took out 5th place.

The QLD AOY Title

In the Queensland angler of the Year title race, Langford sits above the field by one singler point over Michael “Paddy” O’Dowd who is also the highest ranked rookie for the QLD AOY for 2018 with Cody Haynes and Garry Harman equal 3rdjust 5 points behind. Barry Reynolds has had a great 2nd half to the season and really stepped up his game in the QLD rounds and is sitting in 5thplace.

Harman is in the hunt for the Rookie & QLD titles.

If Langford can hold out O’Dowd & Haynes to claim the Over-All & QLD titles he will be taking home a triple crown of the B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Series. With one large trophy already in the cabinet from the Tonic Cania Round he could add 3 more which would be a sensational finish to his incredible season.
